Apple has announced the winner of the 2022 Apple Podcasts Awards
Slate’s narrative non-fiction series Slow burn Roe v. Wade is honored to cover the latest season
Apple today announced the Apple Podcasts Awards, which honor the show and team of the year for excellence, innovation and impact. Inspired by the signature app icon, the Apple Podcasts Awards represent Apple’s decades-long commitment to helping creators share their voices with the world and helping listeners discover the best podcasts.
Apple Podcasts is Slate’s award-winning narrative storytelling series; Slow burn, for the last term, Roe v. Wade, edited by Susan Matthews, executive editor at Slate. Airing throughout June 2022, the four-episode series will explore the events leading up to the 1973 Supreme Court decision, giving listeners an in-depth look at this universal and contemporary human rights issue.
“Apple Podcasts is where users can discover new shows, enjoy their favorites, unlock premium listening experiences and support the creators who make them possible,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Beats. “Podcasting plays an important role in our lives — helping us to be informed, entertained and inspired — and we’re excited to honor the Slate team with this recognition.”
Host Susan Matthews said: “I wanted to do this series because I was so disheartened by how distorted and stuck the conversation around abortion is, and it felt so timely and important. “We set out to expand this story and tell it in a way that helps challenge people’s understanding of this topic. This season we decided to go back to the early 70s, when the abortion debate was still in the air and your party affiliation didn’t match your opinion on the issue. Apple Podcasts is a special one this season. I really respect that they saw things. I hope people come to it with an open and curious mind, and I appreciate listening to it as much as I did.
