Apple has released the iOS 16.2 Beta 2 update to its users worldwide. For iPhone users in India, this update brings support for 5G connectivity. Apple is one of the few companies that has taken some time to add 5G support to its devices in India, while Android counterparts such as Samsung, Xiaomi, Realme, Oppo, ONPP and Motorola have updated their offerings.
If you’re signed up for the iOS beta program, you can install the new beta update to experience 5G. Previously, Apple promised to release a stable update for all users to get next-gen connectivity support in December this year. Now the iOS 16.2 beta update has been rolled out ahead of the stable version and the company plans to take feedback from users about their experience with telecom services.
iPhones in India will get 5G support in a beta update
The new iOS 16.2 beta 2 update will allow select users in India who have signed up for the beta program to get 5G support. Currently, both Jio and Airtel offer 5G services and subscribers of these telcos can install the beta update on their iPhones as long as they have 5G service in their region.
Currently, the iPhone 12 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone SE 2022 and the newly launched iPhone 14 series support 5G connectivity. After installing the iOS 16.2 beta update 2, users of these iPhones will see new options under Settings -> Voice & Data. These options include 5G On, 5G Auto and 4G/LTE.
The first option, 5G On, will use 5G whenever available, but will result in faster battery drain. On the other hand, the 5G Auto option switches between 5G and 4G voltage depending on availability and can consume relatively less battery life. Jio users will see a 5G Stadnalone toggle in settings when the telco uses SA mode.
Is it possible to update to iOS 16.1?
Apple recently released the new iOS 16.1 update but users started seeing bugs. iPhone 13 series users are affected after updating to iOS 16 version. Some users have reported screen freezing issues or animation glitches, and the incremental update hasn’t fixed these issues, some users say. Also, the iPhone 14 stuck to the Spotlight search menu on user-shared video.
There were bugs and glitches in iOS 16 and iOS 16.1, no word on what issues will be fixed in the iOS 16.2 beta 2 update. We expect the company to come up with more fixes for these bugs.
