MediaTek is set to introduce its next-generation mobile flash processor for 2023 devices. The new chipset will succeed the Dimensity 9000/9000+ chipsets and is expected to have higher performance. Chinese tipster, DCS (Digital Chat Site), claims that MediaTek will name the new processor Dimensity 9200 and not Dimensity 9100 as previously speculated. It is expected to break cover in November 2022.

MediaTek Dimensity 9200: How will it fare against Snapdragon 8 Gen 2?

Like the Lexington Ice Universe, the Dimensity 9200 packs new cores from ARM. The Dimensity 9200 replaces the Cortex-X3 as the main core, the Cortex-X2 of the Dimensity 9000/9000+. The Cortex-X3 core is said to offer a 25 percent increase in performance over the Cortex-X2 core. ARM introduced new Cortex-A715 cores, which the Dimensity 9200 can use as intermediate cores. Ice Universe has also revealed that it will offer the new Immortalis G715 GPU.

The Dimensity 9200 goes with Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. Samsung Galaxy S23 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was recently spotted on Geekbench website. It comes with a 1+4+3 CPU core configuration with a main core Cortex-X3 clocked at 3.36GHz, four Cortex-A715 cores clocked at 2.80GHz and three Cortex-A510 efficiency cores clocked at 2.02GHz. It also boasts the new Adreno 740 GPU.

In all probability, both MediaTek 9200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 may use the same cores but the core architecture in both CPUs may differ. Last year, the Dimensity 9000 managed to beat the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in CPU benchmarks, but fell behind in GPU performance. Much depends on how Immortalis G715 GPU of Dimensity 9200 with Adreno 740 of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is priced.

While we don’t have the Dimensity 9200 benchmark score, we do have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Geekbench results. The Samsung Galaxy S23 scored 1524 points in single-core and 4597 points in multi-core. The onus is now on the Dimensity 9200 to beat the benchmark set by Snapdragon.

Expect the Oppo Find X6 to be powered by the new Dimensity 9200. Asus ROG Phone 7 Gaming Smartphone May Come With Dimensity Edition Xiaomi may introduce the Xiaomi 13 Pro Dimensity Edition in some markets. Also, expect Vivo X90 series to come with at least one Snapdragon 9200 powered smartphone.
