It’s no secret that Motorola is working on a new flagship smartphone for 2023. Lenovo Mobile General Manager Chen Jin recently hinted about Motorola’s upcoming device in a Weibo post. The Moto X40 smartphone has now hit the TENAA certification website, revealing its full front and back design. Let’s see if it packs a punch in terms of design and specifications to go with other upcoming flagship devices.
Moto X40: design
The Moto X40 gets revised exteriors compared to the Moto X30. The oval-shaped camera island has been replaced by a square camera island in this iteration. It follows the new design language adopted by Motorola and is similar to the recently launched Motorola Edge 30 Ultra device. A triple rear camera setup is installed.
According to the TENAA images, the Moto X40 will sport a curved screen on the front. Expect a 6.67-inch OLED display with a 144Hz screen refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution. On the display is the same hole-punch camera cutout as the previous generation. The Moto X30 comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The Moto X40 may get an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Overall, it sports an understated but elegant look compared to the excellent OnePlus 11 Pro.

To recall, Moto X30 is the first smartphone launched in China with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 at the helm. Motorola may look to achieve similar success again with the Moto X40. Qualcomm is expected to announce its new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship processor in November 2022, and there is a possibility that Motorola will soon announce the Moto X40 after the event.
Expect the Lenovo-backed company to release the device in its home country of China in December 2022. However, the global variant, which is expected to be dubbed as Motorola Edge 40 Pro/Ultra, may enter the global markets in early 2023.
How does the Moto X40 stack up against the competition?
Moto X40 It should contend with the 2023 flagship smartphones lined up for release in early 2023.
