Fossil is rolling out the Wear OS 3.0 update to some of its smartwatches. Alongside the software release, the Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition was also introduced. The smartwatch comes with a minor design change but runs on Google’s latest wearable OS out of the box.

The Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition retains the look and features of the regular Gen 6 (Venture) smartwatch. So, it might disappoint some fans who were expecting some drastic improvements. Fossil may answer those expectations with the upcoming Fossil Gen 7.

Similarly, the new Gen 6 model has a 1.28-inch AMOLED touchscreen display at its center. It is paired with a rotating crown and two pushers on the right side. The display is protected by a 44mm case with curved edges which is available in rose gold, black or silver. In addition, the 20 mm band can also be replaced with a conventional type of lock.

The Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition is powered by a Snapdragon 4100+ processor, the same chip found on the Gen 6 series. In addition, the lifestyle smartwatch has an ample 1GB RAM and 8GB storage. There is also an array of connectivity like WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and NFC. It runs on Wear OS 3.0, similar to the Google Pixel Watch interface.
The Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition retails for $299 and gets a one-day battery life in smartwatch mode. Fossil says the watch can be 80% charged in 30 minutes. In addition to the voice assistant feature, there is continuous heart rate, blood oxygen and sleep monitoring. Best of all, they even sport VO2Max to monitor the user’s fitness level during training.
Wear OS 3.0 has arrived on Fossil Gen 6 smartwatches
At the same time, Fossil is sending out the Wear OS 3 update to Fossil Gen 6 including variants of the Skagen, Michael Kors and Razer lineup. The firmware will hit on October 17. Crucially, Fossil advises that upgrading to Wear OS 3 will reset the settings on these watches.

On the other hand, Google has announced that it will allow manufacturers to provide an update to Wear OS once every year. This follows the annual appearance of the Android OS in smartphones and tablets.
