Google will probably introduce Google Chromecast HD with Google TV at the official presentation of Pixel 7 series and Google Pixel Watch. There have been similar rumors for some time, now it has been officially confirmed. The question remains: Is there really anything new about streaming dongles?
TL; DR
- Google will probably introduce a new Chromecast on October 6.
- It’s called “Google Chromecast HD with Google TV”.
- Technically it is a step back, but the price is cheaper at around $30.
4K Chromecast will be cheaper than Google Chromecast HD.

It’s not generally news that Mountain View has been running on the new Chromecast for some time. The current round dongle is only used for the Google Cast protocol, which streams audio and video content unique to the Android TV operating system.
The more expensive “Chromecast with Google TV” was announced in 2020 and not only comes with a remote control and additional Google TV user interface, it also connects to the Google Play Store. So, apps like Amazon Prime Video, Netflix and YouTube can be installed. However, Android TV OS still forms the base.
Now Brazil-based Tecnoblog has informed us that Google Chromecast HD has been certified by the national telecommunications authority, Anatel. New footage confirms the same look of the two-year-old 4K model. Bottom line, there will be only one difference between the two Google TV devices: one comes with 4K HDR resolution and the other with 1080p Full HD resolution.
And of course, there’s price to consider. So far, all sources quote a price of around $30 a pop. It’s unclear whether a remote with voice recognition for Google Assistant will also be included. For comparison, the 4K Chromecast currently costs $49.99.

Technically, the AMLogic S805X2 quad-core processor is expected to feature in the device along with 2GB of RAM. While an HDMI dongle is expected to operate on a 2.4- or 5 Gigahertz network, 1080p resolution will only have a refresh rate of 60 Hz.
In our opinion, the expected launch of the two Pixel 7 smartphones and the Google Pixel Watch this October 6 would be a good time to introduce Google Chromecast HD with Google TV. Do you think otherwise?
