A new feature may be coming to Instagram that allows users to repost other people’s posts or Reels. It was spotted by social media analyst Matt Navara, who posted a screenshot on Twitter. A mew profile tab called “Reposts” showed up. Instagram later confirmed that it is testing the feature in a statement TechCrunch.
We’re exploring the ability to reshare posts in feeds – how to reshare in stores – so people can share what they’re passionate about and original creators can be recognized for their work.[…] We plan to test this with a few people soon.
The most common way people repost or share posts these days is by adding them to a story that expires within 24 hours. This new “repost” feature works by sending retweeted reels or feeds to users’ followers instead of stories. Both Twitter and Tik Tok each have their own similar features.

The published screenshots show that the reposting feature will “recommend a post your friends might enjoy by reposting it to a feed or story.” The repost feature will be in the post or real share menu and followers will be able to reply to the poster’s message for the reposted content. Meanwhile, a Reposts tab will appear in a user’s profile, which followers can see. Users can add thoughts to a repost before sharing.
In recent times, Instagram has made a big push with Reels and video content, and not long before that, it was pushing the store’s features – putting the social app’s photo sharing space on the back burner, soon followed by the huge popularity of the short video platform TikTok.
