Oppo is gearing up to launch the successors to its popular Reno 8 series of smartphones. The new Reno 9 series devices are ready for production and slowly leaks and rumors are starting to appear in the market. Popular Chinese DCS (Digital Chat Site) took to microblogging website Weibo to share the specifications of the vanilla Oppo Reno 9.
Oppo Reno 9: Display, Performance (Rumoured)
DCS suggests that the smartphone with model number PHM110 may launch as the regular Oppo Reno 9. It has a 6.7-inch OLED display with Full HD (2412×1080 pixels) resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. If the rumors are true, it will be a big step up in terms of display compared to the Reno 8 which came with a 6.4-inch flat AMOLED with a 90Hz refresh rate. For biometrics, it comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Oppo Reno 9 gets a change of heart as it is said to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ chipset. For the uninitiated, the Oppo Reno 8 comes with a MediaTek Dimensity 1300 SoC. The Snapdragon 778G+ chipset is built on the 6nm manufacturing process and powers any Phone 1 and Motorola Edge 30 5G smartphones on the market. Expect similar, if not better, performance levels from the Dimensity 1300. The phone is equipped with up to 12 GB of RAM.
Oppo Reno 9: Camera, Battery (Rumoured)
In terms of optics, the Oppo Reno 9 is said to swap the 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor for the 64MP OmniVision OV64B for the main camera. There’s no information on the secondary cameras, but expect it to feature the same 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro shooters. According to DCS, the vanilla Oppo Reno 9 will inherit the 32MP Sony IMX709 selfie snapper from its predecessor.
While the display and cameras seem to have gotten an upgrade on paper, Oppo has moved to cut costs in the battery charging department. The Reno is expected to carry the same 4500mAh battery under the hood, but the fast charging support has dropped from the Reno 8’s 80W to 67W. Worse, some reports suggest that Oppo may be bundled with the upcoming charger. Reno 9 smartphone
Should you wait for the Reno 9 or buy the Reno 8 instead?
Going by the leaked specs, the Reno 9 seems to have major upgrades in the display and camera departments. It comes with a large curved OLED display with a higher screen refresh rate. The main camera also got a bump in resolution. If you like curved screens, it’s worth waiting. If not, you can go for the Oppo Reno 8, which comes with a flat screen and fast charging.
