After several delays, it looks like the Matter smart home standard is on track to start dropping this year. The Services and Tools section of the issue first appeared in the Google Account settings for some users. And just yesterday, Apple released the iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1 betas, which included a limited version of the Matter Controller.
TL; DR
- The case section was added in iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1 betas.
- Google has also introduced the Matter option on Android.
- The case is scheduled to go to trial later this year.
Major manufacturers like Matter, Apple, Amazon, Google, Ikea and Samsung are looking to expand the compatibility of smart home devices and IoT (Internet of Things) gadgets for many different smart home platforms. The new standard ensures interoperability and multi-management support in your hardware, regardless of the ecosystem. For example, Siri can control a Nest-brand thermostat on an iPhone if it’s compatible with Matter.
Our colleague WHY Matters has produced a short editorial explaining why it matters and how the upcoming smart home standard will benefit everyone. Read the next post Case 101 guide here.
