Mediatek Dimensity 1080 Processor Announced – Gizbot News

MediaTek has announced another mid-range 5G-capable processor — the Dimensity 1080. This is said to be the successor to the Dimensity 920, which has powered several smartphones like the Realme Narzo 50 Pro 5G, Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge, and the like. Vivo V23 5G.

Compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 1080 offers minimal improvements and features the same CPU cluster with slightly overclocked clock speeds. MediaTek has confirmed that phones with Dimensity 1080 SoC will hit the market in Q4 2022.

According to CH Chen, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit, Dimensity 1080 “It continues MediaTek’s legacy of maximizing power and performance, and offers a whole host of advanced features that challenge expectations of what a 5G smartphone can do.“And it says so.”This new chipset is designed to add many of the features that made its predecessor great, including processing power, camera, video quality and time to market.“

Mediatek Dimensity 1080 specifications

The Mediatek Dimensity 1080 has an octa-core CPU design with two high-performance cores based on the Arm Cortex-A78 architecture. These cores offer a clock speed of up to 2.6GHz and the processor gets its graphics power from the ARM Mali-G68 GPU.

Like the Helio G99, the Dimensity 1080 also uses TSMC’s 6nm processor. The chip also has a new and improved ISP to enable encoding and decoding support for 200MP images and 4K HDR video.

For gamers, the Dimensity 1080 offers HyperEngine 3.0 gaming enhancements, which the phone is expected to deliver a smooth gaming experience with quality frame rates. As for connectivity, the Dimensity supports sub-6GHz 5G networks up to Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, putting it on par with other top smartphone processors of 2022.

Is it better than Dementia 920?

At least on paper, the Dimensity 1080 looks just like the Dimensity 920. In terms of performance, a phone with a Dimensity 1080 processor is expected to be similar to a phone with a Dimensity 920. It is more power efficient and can offer improved 5G network capabilities compared to the Mediatek Dimensity 920 SoC.
