TL; DR
- Carl Pay has confirmed the details of the upcoming No Phone 2.
- The phone will launch this year and will be “more premium” than the Phone 1.
- US launch is “first priority” for anything.
No phone 1 was the best phone of 2022, but it sure was a lot of fun. Its light back (known as “The Glyph”) and premium design at a budget price certainly raised some eyebrows. Unfortunately, some not-so-premium specs and the lack of a US release keep the phone from being an all-around winner.
It may change in 2023. According to an interview vice versaCEO Carl P has confirmed that there will be no Phone 2 in 2023. Although this may not seem surprising, it actually goes the other way. We saw a tweet from Carl Just a month ago, the phone 1 revealed that the company’s focus will continue.
“We’re making a more premium smartphone than any Phone 1, and software is going to be a big focus for us,” Pei said in an interview. So the hesitation to jump into the Phone 2 in December seems to be gone.
In the article, Carl confirmed a bit about the phone. The company confirmed that No Phone 2 is a “top priority” in the US. This is great news, as the lack of a phone here (literally, anyway) is disappointing. “When you make a smartphone for the US, you need to certify with carriers and adapt some of their features into your operating system,” says Pei. “We didn’t have the resources for that before, and now we do.”
Unfortunately, Pei didn’t have much to say about the phone’s 2 specs. Even though it’s a foregone conclusion, Glyph will be back. He did not comment on details or pricing. However, smartphone buyers who are ready for something new this year should write this off because the Nothing Phone 2 could be a lot of fun.
