Apple’s walled garden is a real thing in Samsung’s latest announcement — and there are no flip phones in that garden. They are absolutely coming, but you have to wait. “That’s what we do, we wait,” says an Apple user description of the ad.
The Korean tech company believes it has a good read on Apple’s roadmap for foldables – internal estimates point to its debut in 2024. From the announcement, the fanciful Apple fan will have to wait and watch for the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Fold6. Before Cupertino releases its own foldable (if Samsung’s guesses are correct), two generation Z Flips will also be released.
That being said, Apple’s first foldable might not even be a phone – both Samsung and independent analysts believe it will be an iPad-style device instead. So the Apple fan may have to wait longer for a foldable iPhone.
By the way, don’t read too much into this argument between tech giants based on advertising – it’s just advertising for them. A few years ago, Samsung ran ads mocking Apple for removing the headphone jack, then quietly hid them when it removed the jack from the Galaxy Note10.
