Many respondents to last week’s poll have pre-ordered one of the new Pixels – the 2022 models are the most popular, or at least the most popular. Maybe Google is right to record Pixel 7 units.
If you want one, but haven’t pre-ordered, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro (and Pixel Watch) are available for direct purchase now. You’ll find pricing details in this article (note: the 512GB Pixel 7 Pros don’t seem to be available in Europe for some reason).
Last year’s Pixel 6 reviews showed that there were plenty of potential buyers for Google’s phones, but since the company lacked the retail footprint of other major smartphone makers, many fans were unable to purchase the Pixel locally. Things are a bit better this year as the phones are officially available in more countries.
Surprisingly, there’s no clear favorite – both the 7 and 7 Pro have around 67% approval ratings. The cheap model has its fans just like the bigger and more expensive model and no one is left wondering “this one or maybe this one…”. Maybe other companies can learn something about flooding the market with nearly a dozen identical phones.
Also, Google hasn’t raised European prices compared to last year (unlike Apple) and this hasn’t escaped notice from fans.
Not everyone believes that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are enough of an upgrade over the 6 and 6 Pro. However, Google is accepting trade-ins – for example, the 128GB Pixel 7 is $600, but you can get $440 for the Pixel 6 (also 128GB) if it’s in good condition. This makes the upgrade only $160. In Europe, the equation doesn’t look good, €650 – €300 = €350 for the same Pixel 6 to Pixel 7 trade-in, but it’s still a good deal.
Phones from other brands are also acceptable, such as an iPhone 12 Pro (128GB) priced at $620/€620, which is more than the Pixel 6 in the US (and almost as much as in Europe).
The positive reception for the Pixel 6 series didn’t lead to record-setting sales for the Pixel family, but the numbers recovered from the Pixel 5. The Pixel 7 duo has also received a warm reception and is likely to become even more popular.
