Foldable phones are a big deal in the premium smartphone market right now, but some come closer to perfecting the formula than others. As last week’s poll showed, a few tweaks to the X Fold’s formula would make it a good seller.
Three colorways for vivo X Fold+ including the new Huaxia Red
There aren’t that many differences between the original and the vivo X Fold+, but all the changes are significant. From the outside, that new red color looks great and some reviewers are really digging it.
Under the hood, the upgrade to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is welcome for its efficiency. Combined with a slightly larger battery, it’s enough to give the Plus a nice boost in battery life. The battery is a common limitation for folding, so any improvement is good news.
At the moment, this is just window shopping for many as vivo has yet to announce plans for the global release of the X Fold+ (the original is still not available globally). Also, potential buyers may feel better about their purchase if vivo commits to a longer software support window, especially on such expensive models.
P.S. There was debate in the comments on the use of cell phones and flip phones. Oppo had been showing off a prototype foldable phone using a BOE display a few years back, but it hasn’t followed up with a retail device. vivo itself has trademarked the name “vivo NEX ROLL” (also “NEX SLIDE” and “NEX FOLD”), although no prototypes have been made yet (as far as we know).
