Apple has dropped the Apple Mini from its lineup this year due to low demand for compact phones in the market. It has been replaced by the iPhone 14 Plus model, which is basically the regular iPhone 14 with a larger 6.7-inch display and battery. Apple expects to become a volume seller due to the strong demand in the market for large-screen smartphones. On the other hand, the Plus model is getting a weak market response and Apple is cutting back on the product, according to the report.
The Cupertino giant has reportedly ordered at least one of its manufacturers in China to stop production of iPhone 14 Plus components. It has asked its assembly partner to reduce production by up to 90 percent. What could be the reason behind this decision? Let’s try to solve it.
Will the iPhone 14 Plus meet the same fate as the iPhone 13 Mini?
One reason for the weak demand for the iPhone 14 Plus could be its price tag. The iPhone 14 Plus will be launched in September 2022 at a price of $899, which is close to the $999 Apple iPhone 14 Pro and the $1099 Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max. For just $100 more, customers are getting a 120Hz refresh rate screen with a new pill-shaped camera cutout. Not to mention the improved Apple A16 Bionic processor and the phone shooter that the iPhone 14 Pro offers.
This could be one of the main reasons why the iPhone 14 Plus seems to struggle while its dearer siblings perform well. Another reason is that the iPhone 13 and the non-iPhone 14 Pro are very similar in terms of design, processor and features. Perhaps the customers are not happy with the incremental improvements that the iPhone 14 Pro brought to the table and are opting for the older generation iPhone 13 instead.
If weak demand for the iPhone 14 Plus continues, there’s a chance Apple may be forced to rethink its iPhone 14 Plus strategy. It could even meet the same fate as the iPhone Mini next year, or Apple could pack in more features to differentiate the next-generation iPhone 15 Plus from the vanilla iPhone 15.
Apple iPhone 14 Plus: Price in India
In the Indian market, however, things are very different. iPhone 14 Plus starts at Rs 89,900 while iPhone 14 Pro starts at Rs 1,29,900. 40,000 Birr is a big difference. So, as far as the Indian market is concerned, iPhone 14 Plus sales are likely to be higher compared to other markets where the price difference between the Pro and Pro models is less.
