Google finally released the Pixel Fold this month, and it looks like a gorgeous foldable phone. Between the free-standing hinge, IPX8 rating, respectable internals and flexible camera system, there’s a lot to like here.
But are you really planning to buy Google’s first foldable? That’s what we wanted to know when we ran a poll in the news last week.
Planning to buy the Pixel Fold?
Results
Nearly 1,100 votes were cast in this poll, and we’ve got a variety of answers here. The most popular choice was “No, I’m not thinking about buying” ~38%.
We understand why some of you are not on the Pixel Fold. The $1,800 price tag matches the Galaxy Z Fold 4, but you’re getting a less powerful Tensor chipset, and you’re getting three Android version updates along with four OS updates for Samsung’s foldables. The Google Fold does not offer stylus support compared to the Z Fold 3 and 4.
It seems that more than half of all readers who commented are at least considering buying the Pixel Fold.
The second most popular option in this poll was “Yes, I already ordered mine,” with ~24% of the vote. We can see why some respondents chose this option, as the Pixel Fold still brings a cleaner, simpler Android experience, better camera zoom on paper, and Pixel software features. Throw in that IPX8 rating and free-standing hinge, and you’ve got one of the most versatile non-Samsung laptops out there.
Rounding out the top three is “Maybe I’m Thinking About It,” which received ~23% of the vote. Otherwise, 9.65% of respondents said “Yes, but I haven’t ordered it yet.” 5.29% of poll readers said they’re not buying the folding because it’s not in their market.
Regardless, the final results show that more than 55% of respondents are at least thinking about buying the Pixel Fold. But the results of our previous poll suggest that pricing is a barrier for many users.
