Best free android games
Alto Odyssey
Price: Free to play
Alto’s Odyssey is a natural choice for a free Android game. It features simple mechanics, beautiful graphics and a relaxing style. Players slide down hills while avoiding obstacles and making huge jumps. There are also collectibles that can be traded for various customization options. The game relies heavily on wallpaper-worthy graphics. They are simple but effective and the dark, gradual colors add a nice atmosphere to the game.
It is completely free to download and play with some limited ads. There are in-app purchases, but they’re all customization stuff so it’s completely optional and doesn’t affect gameplay. It is suitable and fun for children. Noodlecake Studios also makes the previous Alto Adventure. If you want other options, here’s a list of the best endless runners. Also, try the screenshot mode for some great desktop background ideas.
Apex Legends Mobile
Price: Free to play
Apex Legends Mobile was launched in 2022 and became an instant success. It’s a 60-player Royale Shooter (20 teams of three players) with two other game modes to keep things fresh. Players choose between actors of Legends, each with its own playstyle and skills. You can unlock more as you play the game. It has some of the best controls we’ve ever seen in a mobile shooter and even some solo player stuff if you don’t want to play with others. Like most battle royale games, the depth of content is a bit thin. However, it seems that people like to shoot a lot.
Asphalt 9: Legend
Price: Free to play
The Asphalt franchise has some of the most popular racing games on mobile. Asphalt 8: Airborne and Asphalt Extreme were the biggest in the series. However, Asphalt 9: Legends was released in July 2018. This is the most recent game in the series. It includes 50 cars, many challenges and lots of content. That includes online multiplayer, single-player stuff, and more.
It uses an auto-run mechanism so you can’t control your acceleration. To be honest, this is not the best practice, but you will get used to it. The graphics are good and there are also social elements. It is a freemium game. Therefore, the appearance of online competition can be a little distorted. However, the single-player stuff is classic arcade racing. You can also skip the grind of in-app purchases. It’s exhausting but totally doable. Here are some other best racing games on mobile.
Brawl Stars
Price: Free to play
Brawl Stars is Supercell’s latest hit game. It’s a brawler with online multiplayer elements as well as some MOBA elements. Players drop into games with specific teammates, fight opponents, and try to win. There are a few game modes, including a straight brawl mode, a mode where you collect crystals, a heist mode where you steal the opponent’s treasure, and a bounty mode where you defeat certain opponents in a group.
It feels like a Supercell game, and that’s mostly a good thing. Supercell also operates Clash Royale, Clash of Clans and Boom Beach. If you like car fighters (Clash Royale) or empire building strategy games (Clash of Clans and Boom Beach), all of these can easily fit into this list. If you want more, you can find more beats here.
Call of Duty: Mobile
Price: Free to play
Call of Duty: Mobile is one of the newest games on this list. We usually wait a bit to see how the game plays, but this one is so popular and so good that we had to add it right away. The game includes online FPS PvP, known as any Call of Duty. However, it also includes a 100-player battle royale mode similar to PUBG Mobile and Fortnite. That puts it in the same league as a good casual FPS game like Critical Ops and a good battle royale like PUBG Mobile.
The game has in-app purchases, but they only seem to be cosmetic items and a good amount of in-game rewards are available. The gameplay is good and people seem to like it. Since it’s relatively new, there are some bugs, but those should be ironed out over time. If this doesn’t do it for you, there are some other great FPS games out there.

EA sports games
Price: Free to play
EA has marketed on sports games. They are the only developer with annual launches for most sports including their Madden NFL Overdrive game, FIFA Soccer, NBA Live Mobile, EA Sports UFC and more. These games all have very similar components. You can play real sports and there is a sim mechanic in all these games. The graphics are usually very good and the controls are generally good. However, EA’s sports games also have free-to-play elements. That’s a recurring frustration for many players and makes it hard to recommend EA in general.
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius
Price: Free to play
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is probably the best Final Fantasy-themed freemium game out there. It features tons of elements from the original games, authentic city and dungeon exploration, hidden treasures, secret dungeons, and tons of art. The game is easy to learn but you need to think deeply to defeat the bosses and tough opponents. You’ll be rewarded frequently for logging in every day, and additional quests, quests, and activities help keep the game fresh.
Genshin influence
Price: Free to play
Genshin Impact was a great surprise release. It’s an action RPG mix with a gacha element. It has most of the usual Gacha elements, including a playable story and multiple teammates. However, this one is much less restrictive and comes with a fully open world and some satisfying combat mechanics. Graphics and gameplay are both amazingly good. Additionally, you can play with people on PS4, iOS and PC. Despite its free-to-play price and gacha tag, this cheat is a good game.
League of Legends: Wild Rift
Price: Free to play
League of Legends: Wild Rift launched in 2021 and it is one of the best mobile MOBAs. It features 5v5 play with perfectly balanced champions. Matches take an average of 15-20 minutes which is slightly longer for mobile games. However, everything about it is great. We especially love that you can’t buy wins in this game. Everyone has the same champion options.
The only downside is the match. Casual playlists sometimes pit lower-level players against more experienced players for some sloppy play. Either way, it’s a trend in today’s game, and there’s not much that can be done about it. Here’s a list of more good MOBAs if you want to check them out.
Legends of Runetera
Price: Free to play
Legends of Runeterra is the newest game on the list. It’s a card-matching game similar to Hearthstone (another great free-to-play game). Players collect cards, build decks, and battle each other until someone wins. You pick a champion, build your deck around it, and that helps determine your strategy. It’s actually kind of like a commander game in Magic: The Gathering.

Nintendo games
Price: Free to play (mostly)
Nintendo is a simple recommendation for free Android games. They have games in different genres and most of them pull nostalgia. Some Nintendo titles include Dragalia Lost, Fire Emblem: Heroes, Mario Kart Tour and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. If you like puzzles, there’s also a Dr. Mario World game. Each game is cleanly executed with smooth gameplay and colorful graphics. A few, like Mario Kart Tour, are a little rough around the edges with free-to-play elements, but otherwise Nintendo does a good job of providing great experiences.
We definitely recommend Fire Emblem Heroes to strategy RPG fans. Fun fact, Mario Kart Tour has the second biggest mobile launch behind Call of Duty: Mobile.
Pocket City
Price: Free / $2.99
Pocket City is as close to SimCity as you can get on Android. The game starts like any other city builder. You will build roads, residential zones, commercial zones and important buildings. They have to deal with the dangers and the surprisingly deep economic and criminal mechanics. The free version of the game does not have as many features as the premium version and also has ads.
However, most of the extra features are just that, extras, and you can play them for free without paying for the main game. This is easily one of the best emulators on Android, although it had a rough start.
Pokemon go
Price: Free to play
Pokemon Go was the biggest mobile game of 2016. Although its popularity has waned a bit, the game is still a solid free option. It has seen a resurgence even during the Covid-19 pandemic. Players can explore the real world around them as they catch Pokemon, download Gyms, and search for Pokestops. New additions include Legendary Pokemon, Raid Battles, Trainer Battles (with some caveats), and more. Now you can even trade Pokemon in the game.
The game continues to evolve more than most can remember. When it eventually ends its run, it will go down as one of the best and most popular mobile games of all time. It stands alone on the list of best augmented reality games.
Roblox
Price: Free to play
Roblox is currently one of the most popular games in the world. It’s a sandbox game with a metric ton of content to play. The game is ancient by mobile gaming standards, but the ever-increasing amount of content keeps it relevant even today. Players can play things that other players create or create things themselves.
The mobile application has full support with other versions of the game and includes a chat function. Downloadable content is occasionally NSFW, so be sure to keep an eye out if you let your kids play. Here are some other great sandbox games.
hit
Price: Free / $1.99
Smash Hit is one of the best endless runners ever made. It uses a unique first-person perspective and you have to throw metal balls at glass panels to avoid getting hurt. Hit points double when your ammo counts, so there’s a micromanaging aspect to the game to throw as few balls as possible and hit as little as possible. The free version of the game contains the entire game from start to finish. Premium version adds saves and player statistics.
