AnTuTu’s monthly report on the world’s most powerful Android phones is out and (like once a month) the top phones are powered by the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The benchmark team warns that this will not last long. 8 Gen 2 is just around the corner.
The group also pointed out that the market for gaming phones is small. However, their advanced cooling hardware allows them to deliver overall flagships in raw performance.
The Asus ROG Phone 6 remains on top, especially the 16/512GB configuration. Note that this is a non-pro model. Then iQOO 9T is interesting in the second and third place – Red Magic 7 (S-non-S, non-Pro) with the original Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which is ahead of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra (which has 8). + chip).
The best-performing Dimensity 9000-based model (and the only non-Snapdragon phone on the list) remains the base of the vivo X80. Note that AnTuTu gets many scores and takes things like RAM and storage speed into account, so it’s not always a case of “newer chipset = faster”.
Also, this list only tracks phones available worldwide, so some competitors that haven’t left China aren’t on it (there’s a separate list for the Chinese market). This explains why the Red Magic 7S didn’t replace its predecessor. The Red Magic 7 is one of the few phones that managed to manage the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 thermal throttling thanks to the cooling fan (which is also available on the 7S, of course).
While MediaTek is not heavily represented in the main top 10, the “sub-flagship list” (i.e. the market between flagships and the mid-range) is led by the top 3: Realme GT Neo with Dimensity 8100. 3, Poco X4 GT and Redmi K50i.
That said, the older Snapdragon 870 fills most of the slots below #4, no wonder it remains popular with premium models. It is also worth noting that the Dimensity 8100-Max variant (in the OnePlus 10R), which was at the top last month, has dropped to 4th place.
Finally, the top 10 fastest mid-rangers – this chip is packed with Snapdragon 778G devices, powering eight models. The top handset, No Phone (1) uses the 778G+ instead, so it’s almost entirely dominant.
There is one exception, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G on the 5th with the Snapdragon 780G. The 780G is very similar to the 778G but is built on Samsung’s 5LPE node and TSMC’s N6.
The new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 has not yet made an impact in this category, the Dimensity 8000 does not exist either.
