Update
Apple Education Coach is now open to teachers across the US.
Teachers can apply for the program until November 16.
Apple has launched its second U.S.-wide Apple Education Coaching Group, a free professional education program to train educators on how to get the most out of Apple products. The program, which is open to instructional coaches, digital learning specialists and other coaching educators across the US, is accepting applications now through November 16, 2022.
Through a combination of self-paced lessons and virtual workshop sessions with Apple professional learning specialists, participants will gain access to a trainer’s portfolio of experience, a peer group, and the opportunity to apply for continuing education credits from Lamar University.
“For more than four decades, Apple has worked with educators to help students create, solve problems and express themselves in new ways. We designed Apple Learning Coach to support teachers using technology in the classroom,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of education and enterprise marketing. It’s making a real impact with teachers and their students, helping to build a strong foundation for lifelong creativity and learning.”
The largest team to date was confirmed in July, and there are now more than 1,600 Apple Learning Coaches in 49 states and Washington, D.C.
“Technology helps students develop creativity and critical thinking, which are vital for future career opportunities,” said Heidi Westropp, instructional coach for Wasatch County School District and Utah-based Apple Learning Coach. “It is my job to empower the teachers in our district to create unique creativity in all students. Apple Learning Coach gave me the tools and resources to work with teachers with diverse technology backgrounds to expand classroom walls and celebrate each child’s unique abilities.”
Along with the new Apple Learning Coach team, Apple continues to add other resources for educators.
The Apple Education community is now alive and growing with valuable content from educators around the world. The Community is a professional learning center designed for educators using Apple technology, and combines Learning Center with self-paced professional learning and forums, a collaborative space for educators to meet and share.
In the Apple Education Community, Apple Can Create Projects for Everyone launched a new online series of simple, time-saving lessons and downloadable resources to spark new ideas and bring creativity to any subject. Everyone Can Create is designed to empower educators to build their creative teaching skills and deliver engaging learning experiences on the iPad.
New projects anyone can create include:
- Design with shapes in keynotes to help students visualize anything they can imagine, from math concepts to works of art.
Updates of pages, numbers, keynotes and fast playing fields
Pages, Numbers, and Keynotes from popular apps used in education have been updated, allowing users to see the latest activity in collaborative files and receive notifications when people join, comment, and edit. All three applications allow users to automatically remove the background of images, and users can remove or replace the background of live video objects in Keynote.
Swift Playgrounds now helps users learn the basics of machine learning by training a model in a simple rock, paper, scissors game, showing how computers make predictions from data. Additional walkthroughs show how to configure application layouts by building a magazine application. Swift Playgrounds requires no prior coding knowledge, so it’s perfect for beginners, and it uses Swift—the powerful programming language used by professionals around the world to quickly bring ideas to life.
Updates to iWork and Swift Playgrounds support new desktop-grade iPad features in iPadOS 16, including a customizable toolbar, a new document list, and support for Grade Manager, making it easier for students and teachers to get more done on iPad.
