TL; DR
- A new report has revealed storage options for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.
- All Fold 5 variants can get UFS 4.0 storage.
- The Flip 5 might get UFS 4.0 storage, but it might not get an alternate upgrade.
When the Samsung Galaxy S23 series was launched, it came with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for the Galaxy chip, along with Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 4.0. A new report suggests that Samsung’s upcoming flips may use UFS 4.0 technology, but a version of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 may be left behind.
The people at Sammobile Say I have details on the storage options coming to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. According to the outlet, the Fold 5 should come in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB variants. As for the Flip 5, Samsung is expected to offer 128GB, 256GB and 512GB models.
Additionally, these phones are expected to come with UFS 4.0 storage. This may not be that surprising as Samsung’s foldables are also expected to use the same or improved S23 processor. Interestingly, there may be one variant that doesn’t get the Quick Storage option.
The variant in question could be the 128GB variant of the Flip 5. As the most cost-effective option among the bunch, it looks like this phone is likely to stick with UFS 3.1.
If you are not familiar with UFS 4.0, you can check out the UFS 4.0 article which covers everything you need to know. But basically it’s a flash storage chip created by Samsung and it’s about twice the speed of UFS 3.1.
If the Flip 5 ends up using UFS 3.1, this will put it on par with the standard model of the Galaxy S23. Although UFS 4.0 is much faster than its predecessors, using UFS 3.1 shouldn’t have much of an impact on the user experience. You’ll only notice the difference if you hold the Flip 5 and Fold 5 close to each other.
