What does the Google Pixel 7 warranty cover?

It’s always good to know that your smartphone manufacturer has your back if something goes wrong with your device. It’s important to know what a warranty covers, though. Google calls it a “limited warranty” for a reason.
With the Google Pixel 7 series, you get a standard one-year warranty. This starts from the date of purchase. Google is very clear in its warranty terms, and clearly mentions that the device must be purchased from Google or authorized retailers in its original packaging.
Google’s warranty covers any manufacturing defects, whether in materials or workmanship. This warranty covers the device as well as “any ancillary components that may be packaged with it”. It covers the hardware components and is only effective if it is an actual manufacturing issue, not software. This means that it should cover anything that stops working properly for no reason.

Thankfully, there are many ways to extend your warranty and improve coverage. Extended warranties are technically more insurance when they begin to cover things like accidental damage, water damage, and more. Sometimes they can even cover theft. Just be aware that repairs and replacements are usually not free. You almost always have to pay a deductible.
There are many extended warranty and insurance options available, but let’s start with the basics.
Google Preferred Care
Google offers its own extended warranty/insurance service. Preferred Care can extend the warranty up to four years if you choose to pay monthly. They also offer two-year plans. Apart from extending your warranty period, it also covers accidents like drops, cracks, spills and any kind of accidental damage. Google has partnered with uBreakiFix for over 600 walk-in repairs in the USA if you haven’t already logged in.
The cost of your protection plan depends on which device you have. The Pixel 7 can be covered for $149 for two years, or $7 per month. Pixel 7 Pro plans go up to $199 for a two-year plan, or $9 per month.

If you’re getting your Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro from Amazon, you’ll be offered a protection plan powered by Asurion. Like Google, you can choose to pay a lump sum for a two-year plan, or opt for a monthly plan limited to 36 months.
This insurance plan covers any manufacturing defects beyond the standard one-year warranty. It also covers accidents, spills, drops, cracks etc.
Amazon’s mobile phone insurance plan costs $129.99 for a two-year plan, or $6.49 per month for the Pixel 7. For the Pro edition, the price goes up to $199.99 for a two-year plan, or $7.49 per month.

If you’re more of a brick-and-mortar store type of person, you can often get your electronics from Best Buy. and presents his own defense plans. These cover breakdowns beyond the specified warranty period, as well as accidental damage and all that good stuff.
Prices are set up very similarly to the other options. You can pay monthly or sign up for a two-year plan. Protecting your Pixel 7 with Best Buy will cost you $169.99 for a two-year plan, or $8.99 per month. Surprisingly, the price of both Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro seems to be the same here.
Get insurance from your carrier

This is usually very convenient, as the cost of your coverage can be paid for along with your cell phone service costs. Additionally, insurance provided by the carrier usually covers loss and theft. You can return your Pixel 7 series device within 15 calendar days of receiving it. This extends to 30 days if you access it with Pixel Pass.
