Huawei introduced its first smartwatch with blood pressure monitoring in December 2021. The wearable was not expected outside of the domestic market, but finally, it was unveiled to an international audience in May with the Mate Xs2.
The price is set by 449 euros, but no arrival date was given. Huawei’s keynote at IFA 2022 in Berlin contained the exact information, but today the company finally revealed that the Watch D will arrive in Germany on October 12.
The Huawei Watch D is otherwise a fairly standard smartwatch, but stands out with its support for a special air pump/air bag strap next to the strap to provide highly accurate blood pressure monitoring. The company claims the sensors have an extremely low margin of error of 3 mmHg. It also comes with ECG support like the Watch GT 3 Pro.
The reason for the delay is the bureaucratic procedures from the EMA – the European Medicines Agency, which controls and regulates medicinal products throughout Europe.
The first market is Germany, and we can confirm that Italy is getting the Watch D soon. Each country in Europe decides for itself whether to approve blood pressure wearables. It may take some time, but we believe that the launch in Germany will have a snowball effect and the Huawei Watch D will be approved and therefore quickly launched across the old continent.
