When will IFA 2022 take place?
IFA 2022 will take place between September 2nd and 6th at the Messe Berlin exhibition grounds. That’s right at the heart of where NextPit is. The tech conference, which hasn’t hosted an audience since 2019, will return to a face-to-face event in 2022. However, learning from past years, the event’s organizers are offering a virtual platform.
Back to a sense of normalcy, in addition to the conferences and keynotes on the event’s main stage, we were finally able to wander through the exhibit halls and booths where manufacturers were showcasing their products. Some of the technology companies that have confirmed their presence at the show include Qualcomm, Samsung, Lenovo, Motorola, Oppo, Honor, Huawei, Asus and others.
As usual, before the official opening, the first two days leading up to the show are devoted to the press. It’s around this time that we expect to see major announcements at the fair.
Below, we’ve listed the event’s most anticipated events during IFA 2022 and what to expect from major manufacturers.
Qualcomm at IFA 2022
Qualcomm is one of the most promising companies at IFA this year. That’s because the US chipmaker made high promises during MWC in March. Under the slogan “Ticket to the Metaverse,” Qualcomm touted its VR/AR products and partnerships with manufacturers and carriers such as Germany’s T-Mobile.
Personally, I’m very excited to know what new things Qualcomm will bring at IFA 2022, not only in terms of Metaverse, but also for smartphone processors to boot. Since the change of partnership between Samsung and TSMC to produce Snapdragon chips, we have seen a jump in efficiency and performance in the series. According to the latest rumors, the company may use the event to introduce the new Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 series.
We have confirmed so far that Qualcomm President Chrystia Amon will deliver a keynote on September 2nd at 10am CEST. In addition, the manufacturer should have a booth to show 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) products.
Samsung at IFA 2022
Another company making a lot of noise during the fair is Samsung. The South Korean manufacturer, which has a special location at City Cube Berlin, often develops a complete smart home and IoT experience. Additionally, the show is an opportunity to unveil new releases such as the foldable Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4.
We don’t expect to see many new releases as the manufacturer has opted for special events for the launch of its flagship devices for the second half of the year. However, the company may introduce new micro-LED televisions and other smart home appliances.
Lenovo and Motorola at IFA 2022
Unlike Samsung, Lenovo and Motorola always use the show to announce new devices like smartphones and tablets. In 2022, this should be no different. The Chinese manufacturer has an event confirmed for September 1 when we expect to see new ThinkPad tablets and laptops.
Motorola, meanwhile, recently announced the new Motorola Edge in the US, but we don’t know what the company might bring to the Berlin show in 2022. Hopefully, however, we’ll get a chance to see (and review) the new Motorola Razr. 2022, which is currently only available in China.
Asus at IFA 2022
Another company with a confirmed event for IFA 2022 is Asus, on August 31 at 2pm CEST. Just like Lenovo’s new ZenBook 17 Fold OLED, we have an official page counting down to its launch. As seen in the image below, this laptop is built with a flexible display and supports many accessories.
However, don’t get too excited just yet as this isn’t the first time Asus has showcased the device. The first reveal happened at CES 2022. What’s new here is that the device may finally be ready for action.
Oppo at IFA 2022
After recent events involving Oppo and OnePlus in Germany, Oppo is not expected to have a strong presence at IFA 2022. However, we have confirmed an event in Paris on August 31, which will be broadcast globally starting at 1pm CEST. Without much mystery, the manufacturer is expected to launch the new Reno 8 series. Just head over to the manufacturer’s official YouTube channel to watch the event live.
LG at IFA 2022
LG no longer manufactures smartphones, but remains a major player in the TV and display sector. The manufacturer has already confirmed the announcement of the “world’s largest OLED TV” during the Berlin show.
According to LG, the OLED evo Gallery Edition TV (model 97G2) combines OLED evo technology with advanced picture artificial intelligence algorithms to deliver realistic images and a cinematic viewing experience. Looking at the press image below, we can expect a screen size of less than 2.5 meters diagonally, which is expected to be blown up by the size of this home entertainment device.
TCL at IFA 2022
And while we’re on the subject of TVs, TCL has confirmed its presence at IFA 2022, and will host a conference on September 1 at 2pm CEST. In general, TCL mentions that we can expect “the latest displays, soundbars and smart wearables” as well as “a whole host of smart home appliances.”
Honor at IFA 2022
Honor has a confirmed event at 5pm CEST, closing the September 2nd conference schedule. The slogan is “Embrace the Connected Future”, the invitational showcases a variety of connected smart devices and services. Personally, we don’t seem to have announcements about new products, but rather a service that connects the company’s entire ecosystem of devices and services.
Huawei at IFA 2022
On the other hand, Huawei has always had a big presence at the show, and even with all the mistakes that have happened in recent years, we believe that the manufacturer will continue the tradition of announcing new products during the conference. On September 3, Huawei will open the day’s proceedings with a keynote at 10:30 am CEST.
Unfortunately, we don’t have an exact indicator of what new devices the manufacturer might bring to the IFA stage this day, but since the company is still selling its products in Europe, it looks like we’ll see the Nova. 10 Pro is being announced.
Sony will miss IFA 2022
Another Berlin tech show was Sony, which always had an unforgettable booth showcasing everything from TVs to its famous headphones. However, the company will not exist in 2022. In a statement sent to the German website Go2MobileSony is going all-in on virtual experiences for its upcoming launch events.
Sony has decided not to show at IFA 2022. Considering the fact that the world has strongly shifted to digital and online communication methods and opportunities, Sony communicates news related to its products in ways that can reach a large audience.
Is there anything more?
In addition to the companies mentioned in this article, Google is expected to be present at the usual kiosk outside the show, and a number of companies—especially 50 brands—will preview their products at the ShowStoppers event on September 1. at 7 pm CEST.
Companies like Jackery, Philips Hue, TP-Link, Amazfit, Zepp Health, HMD Global, Withings, FitBit and Garmin are expected to announce new products at IFA 2022.
As mentioned earlier, the IFA will take place in the house of NextPit. So stay tuned as we’ll be covering the show live from the convention center. Check here for the latest news and hands-on experiences of the major devices launched at this year’s tech show in Berlin!
