Apple has launched the iPhone 14 ( review ) in the US with dual eSIM variants without a SIM tray slot. Then it was rumored that the iPhone 15, which is only SIM, is going to other markets. However, this could not materialize and instead, mmWave 5G could come with the iPhone 16, including international support.
This is confirmed from the technical support pages of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro (comparison), which lists the device’s three SIM components. The first is the dual eSIM which is only for the States. Meanwhile, the second nano SIM is combined with the eSIM and will be an option for the rest except China.
Accordingly, only the Chinese models of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro are getting a physical dual-SIM slot. This is similar to previous generations of iPhones. But regardless of which ECIM models they all support two active networks.
For starters, eSIM or embedded SIM modules have advantages like taking up less space compared to SIM trays. This is especially useful in wearables with cellular connectivity, such as smart watches. At the same time, activating carriers and switching plans is faster than with old SIM cards.
