Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro release date and price
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will be available in stores from August 26. The smartwatch comes in two colors: Black Titanium and Gray Titanium. You can also choose between the standard version and the LTE version. The former costs $449.99 and the latter a hefty $499.99. You can also customize the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro through Samsung’s Bespoke Studio.
However, Samsung has an interesting offer for early birds. Those who pre-order the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro by August 26 will receive up to $200 in credit toward Samsung Pay. Click here for pre-order availability.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro design and build quality
The new Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is huge and only available in a 45mm format, which can quickly make it look bulky on smaller wrists. Samsung relies on titanium for the case material, and the display glass is made of sapphire, which is nearly twice as strong as the Watch 4’s display glass at 29 GPa. The captured screenshot provides additional protection.
Like last year’s generation, the Galaxy Watch 5 series also has two physical buttons on the right side of the case. Following the discontinuation of the “Classic” line in 2022, a model with a rotating bezel will no longer be available. Instead, all models rely on a virtual bezel: you can perform a circular motion on the touchscreen to quickly scroll through details. I like the new magnetic clasp that Samsung calls the “D-Buckle Sports Band.”
For smaller wrists, Samsung offers the Galaxy Watch 5 this year, optionally available in 44- or 40-millimeter format. In terms of display strength, the Galaxy Watch 5 is roughly between last year’s model and the new Pro.
The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro offers a super AMOLED display that looks great. We didn’t get to test it in the sunlight with our hands, but the Galaxy Watch 4 cut a good figure here in our review. If the Watch 5 Pro disappoints here, it must be a devil’s bargain.
I also like the new interactive wristwatches. Not only do they look beautiful, but they also fit your Galaxy Z Flip 4 in style. Speaking of customization: You can order the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro through Bespoke Studio and have tons of customization options for color, wristbands, and more.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro performance
On the back, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and Watch 5, by the way, will once again feature the Bioactive sensor on the Watch 4. Samsung is already responsible for monitoring heart rate, oxygen saturation, blood pressure and body fat composition. He says it has improved accuracy again, especially when measuring body fat composition. As with the older model, there is also an ECG sensor here.
So what’s new this year? The Watch 5 series can now estimate how much you’ve lost through sweat during a workout and provides improved recovery analysis. There’s also a new sleep tracking app that guides you through step-by-step guides to better sleep habits and also includes your smart home via SmartThings support here.
The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro also gets a variety of features that the Watch 5 doesn’t have. For example, the watch now offers turn-by-turn navigation and the option to import and export routes, both in GPX format. You can also let the watch take you back to your starting position during a workout. Unfortunately, the new browsing features are still not available on our review unit.
Support for external accessories, particularly Bluetooth chest straps or cadence sensors, is still not available on the fifth-generation Galaxy Watch. Now that’s really sad. However, outdoor sports enthusiasts should be especially pleased with the new tracking and navigation features.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro Battery
Battery life has always been one of the main points of criticism of Samsung smartwatches – and the South Koreans have stepped it up a notch. The Galaxy Watch 5 now has approximately 10 percent more battery capacity compared to the previous generation.
The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is a league higher at 590 mAh and is expected to last 20 hours with continuous GPS tracking according to the manufacturer. That’s not bad for a Galaxy smartwatch, but compared to Garmin smartwatches, these numbers are laughable.
Early judgment
Samsung has not taken any risks with the fifth generation of the Galaxy Watch. The biggest innovation in the Watch 5 is probably the 10% increase in battery capacity. The more exciting development will be the Watch 5 Pro, which comes with a massive and really chic chassis and offers attractive innovations, especially for outdoor browsing. We’re definitely looking forward to chasing the Watch 5 Pro through the low rise in a detailed review.
Already convinced that the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will be your next smartwatch? If so, you’ll find Samsung’s pre-order promotion here, where you’ll get up to $200 in Samsung Pay vouchers when you buy a Samsung smartwatch by August 26.
