Around the middle of this month, Samsung announced the rollout of One UI 5.1.1 to its older foldables, starting with the Galaxy Z Fold4. One UI 5.1.1 is the build that ships on the new Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5, and it brings some extra features that could be very useful.
Samsung has promised that the Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 will receive an update to One UI 5.1.1 in due course, and the rollout has started today in Europe and Asia.
The new build is F926BXXU5FWH5 for the Fold3 and F711BXXU6FWH3 for the Flip3. With the update, you will get the August 2023 security patch and many new features.
The Fold3 and Flip3 both get better app previews on recent screens, an easier way to switch from pop-up view to split screen, and the ability to restore pop-ups to the edge of the screen. Additionally, more apps can use Flex Mode and a customizable Flex Mode toolbar with improved Flex Mode media controls.
The Quick Share feature has been improved, while Samsung Health gets better sleep coaching, skin temperature measurements during sleep, as well as improved fitness summaries, goals, rewards and badges.
There are now more styled date and time symbols in the Camera app, improved admin previews, easier to apply effects, and you can copy and paste filters and sounds from one image to another.
You can drag and drop with two hands, Samsung Internet has made some layout improvements, Device Care has improved memory management, and My Files shows app cache information.
The Fold3 features features like an improved Flex Mode setting for the camera’s Pro modes, a new option to select multiple pictures in Capture View, and hovering the S Pen over a floating app icon to preview the app in question.
As usual with updates, keep in mind that the release can be scheduled, so it may take a few days (or longer) for the new towers to reach all Fold3 and Flip3 units in the wild.
