Google will introduce its next smartphone series — the Pixel 7 on October 6. The Pixel 7 Pro variant packs the Samsung-made Tensor G2 chipset. Now, the Pixel 7 Pro’s Geekbench scores have been released, shedding light on the performance and technical aspects of the Tensor G2 processor. According to the leak, the Tensor G2 is codenamed “gs201”, so let’s find out what Google’s next flagship SoC has to offer.
The Geekbench 5 listing confirms that the Tensor G2 is powered by an octa-core CPU configuration with two high-performance cores based on the ARM Cortex-X1 microarchitecture. Similarly, the processor also has four efficient cores based on the Cortex-A76 microarchitecture and the Cortex-A55 microarchitecture.
It still lags behind the A16 Bionic and SD 8+ Gen 1.
Although based on the same CPU cluster configuration as the original Tensor, Google has increased the clock speed. The high-performance Cortex-X1 cores run at a frequency of 2.85GHz, while the mid-performance cores have a clock speed of 2.35GHz.
Powered by the Tensor G2, the Google Pixel 7 Pro managed to score 1068 and 3149 points on the single-core and multi-core CPU tests, respectively. Compared to other flagship SoCs like the A16 Bionic and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, the Tensor G2 has a lower single-core score. These results reflect that the CPU on the Tensor G2 is about 10 percent smaller than the CPU configuration on the original Tensor.
A slight improvement on the previous one
The higher clock speed combined with the improved 4nm manufacturing process should make the Tensor G2 a pretty efficient processor. Unlike the CPU, the GPU on the Tensor G2 has received a major update and is using the latest Mali-G710 GPU, which is already said to be 20 percent faster than the Mali-G78.
