We are really living in the golden age of television. In addition to quality, there is an amazing amount of TV under the sun for every taste. With streaming, we also have unlimited access to see what we want when we need it. It may seem the opposite to say that I want less choice on my finger. I want a more controlled stream of content to come to my screen. For that, I really want the traditional weekly TV show.
watch out: The best original stream shows on every platform
Earlier this month, Android Authority.Rita El-Khuri wrote about the freedom that came from abandoning the need to be a “part of the traditional conversation” on viral TV shows such as Game of Thrones, Strange and Squid. Instead, she watches a few selected shows as soon as they finish airing. I want to return to the weekly TV show and I think I long for a solution to the same problem.
Now, to be clear, every week, a series of releases never go away. not really. In the midst of stream wars, the cable is still being trampled. And even Netflix, the king of the TV Bing model, has played weekly or progressive releases. Ozark and Stranger Things are both split seasons with more shouts that they can buy with their close-ups.
We all know the Bing model. In the 2000s, DVD-packed collections were readily available, and it became common to watch full-time episodes. Don’t have an HBO at home? It doesn’t matter, you can rent The Sopranos from your local video store and connect one weekend. Netflix is then known for providing subscribers full access to episodes. The streamer gave a second life like Breaking Bad as big content blocks.
Netflix is known for providing complete content blocks such as Breaking Bad.
Netflix When he released the new series in 2013, he turned his head. This was not an existing show, as people missed the first race. It was new, and it came at once. Friday, February 1, 2013 Everyone (in most Netflix markets) has access to all 13 episodes. You can book a place and see them every week. But by Monday, you can watch everything and be ready to discuss the end of the water cooler in your spare time. And many did.
The downfall of the entire season seems to be the release of television, at least in the future. Why wait until you can get it all now? Netflix has repeatedly created the model, with other great songs such as Orange New Black, Strange, Umbrella Academy, Witch and many more.
Despite its popularity, the Bing model did not take off.
Netflix is only to a limited extent supporting it. HBO Max, Hulu and Disney Plus usually run weekly. Apple TV Plus is the only weekly TV station that produces the original. Before pioneering its weekly releases, Apple pioneered the launch of two or three consecutive first-show shows.

Call it a negotiation. Audiences, like human beings, can be immersed in great scenes like Farewell, Servant and others with the original mini-binge, and then adjust to a more streamlined format.
Apple TV Plus has mastered the mixed streaming strategy.
Every current Star Trek show streams on Paramount Plus. They all follow the traditional weekly model.
Star Trek Stranger New Worlds is one step ahead and is returning Star Trek to its original, more subsequent roots. Each section offers its own adventure. There is a lot of conspiracy theorists going on at the moment, and there is a character development on the long arches. This is always part of the track. But there is also a sense of accomplishment in each new part. (Arguably, the lower floors have beaten them to the punch, but they do not feel they have been explored in the current Star Wars universe, which includes animated series and Picard).)
What are the benefits? Why is the weekly release model on the buffet that you can eat all over TV?
Well, my partner Rita is the opposite type of pressure. I am similarly shocked by the giants, but I want to feel part of a larger discussion on platforms like Twitter. (At the very least, I want to be a part of it as long as I don’t want to throw my phone into the ocean, well, spend a lot of time on Twitter.) It’s hard to get involved when people scream at their own pace. Although I close enough time to see all the latest guest stuff sitting in one or two, I don’t know who was arrested or not. I don’t want to ruin a big event for anyone. I don’t want to have endless conversations about which part to look at to make sure we are all about what everyone is talking about. What I want is that old water cooler. “Have you seen the new alien world?” I can visit a colleague on Friday morning.
Weekly TV broadcasts the discussion and makes TV a shared experience.
There is a power of touch on Twitter every Wednesday, following the release of Marvel’s new episode on Disney Plus. This is what happens when a new Obi-Wan Kenobi unit hits the stream every week. The Mondays after the new game were amazing on Twitter. It’s a simple concept, and old. That means we can spend weeks or months trying to enjoy our favorite show, talk about it, make predictions, and draw in groups.
At best, it’s really intoxicating. While Netflix’s major audience numbers are high, shows like Stranger Things, Ozark or The Lincoln Lawyer do not seem to generate much talk. And it’s a very short time when they do. That is a coincidence. Imagine if we all watched the new episodes of squid together as we waited for a global audience. Korean sleep magic was easily multiplied fivefold.
TV is such an isolated, lonely activity, but it doesn’t have to be. Why not make it a social event? Appointment view narrows your preferences and allows you to be part of something bigger.
