App Clip Codes are pointers designed by Apple to launch your App Clip. When someone scans your App Clip code, it brings up your App Clip or, if that person already installs your app, it launches directly to a specific part of your app. Each code has a unique design that is instantly recognizable, unique to each application clip, and provides a safe and secure way to stimulate your experience. Codes can also include an NFC tag, which allows people to easily unlock their iPhone and open the app clip without having to check through the camera app.
You can easily create application clip codes and customize them to match your company brand or interior design. Here’s how to put one together for use with your customers.
Plan your app clip experience
Use the App Clip source generator to create a new App Clip code. When creating a new code, you can select the colors, assign a custom URL to your app, and decide to create code that supports NFC (close field connection).
Single and multiple application clip codes
If you create a single app clip for your app, you can create a single app clip code so that anyone scanning the code can get the same information. For example, if you own a restaurant, placing the same application clip code on each table can bring the app clip with the digital menu and payment options. Each example of a single code provides the same experience.
You can duplicate the same application clip code for use on items such as hardware packing. Guide to Setup Experience or Interactive Guide. As an example of a restaurant, you are always bringing customers to the same experience in your app, so you just need to create a unique app clip code and duplicate it on your material.
You can create unique codes for each experience if you provide multiple application clips or advanced application clip experiences. For example, if you have an app for your restaurant and you want to provide an app clip for ordering ad on your ad, as well as a separate app clip for those who hold it outside the restaurant, you can create a separate app clip code for each. Call different parts of the app.
Should you use NFC?
People can interact with App Clip Code in two ways: Only Scan or NFC. Scanned codes work when a person uses a barcode reader or camera app on their iPhone or iPad to view the code, which provides a custom URL to the app. Conversely, NFC integrated codes allow people to easily attach their device to the application clip code to call the app clip.
Regardless of your choice, we recommend that you use NFC Integrated App Clip Code whenever one can easily access your App Clip code. Examples include:
- At the restaurant table
- Hardware systems near the point of sale
- Window in front of shop
- On an easily accessible sign
- On a gift card, coupon or other offer
Make sure you use at least 35mm diameter (or equivalent) Type 5 NFC tags to ensure the best experience if you combine the NFC tag with your app clip code.

- In digital materials such as email or social media images
Customize the appearance of your app clip code
You can customize the front and back color and create something that fits your app or company brand to make your app clip code stand out. App Store Connect provides both the default App Clip code colors and the option to choose your own colors. If you choose the latter option, Apple will automatically generate a third color in the app clip code to ensure adequate contrast for the actual test experience.
Create a clip code for your application
Once you are ready to create your own App Clip code, you can get started with App Store Connect or Apple Command Line Tools. App clip clips are easy to create, help you enhance and enhance your app clip experience and get people to access the right parts of your app in real time.
